Favorite Christmas Reads

I know, most are complaining that we go straight from Halloween to Christmas. I happen to see Thanksgiving and Christmas as one long holiday season that flows and blends together. I am one who will listen to Christmas music November 1st. So if you aren't ready yet, come back in a few weeks. For the rest of us, put on some Micheal Buble holiday music and grab a book! Part of feeling in the holiday spirit is reading a fun Christmas themed book. Here are some of my favorites! You will notice that many are mysteries because I love a good cozy mystery.  Vintage woman reading book First, is one that I read EVERY year, usually on Thanksgiving break. Charlotte MacLeod was an amazing, witty author. Reading her books is like a combination of P. G. Wodehouse and Agatha Christie. "Rest You Merry" is the first book in her Peter Shandy series. The entire series is lovely. I devoured every book.  Book two is another Charlotte MacLeod, "Murder Goes Mumming...

Finding Books for Jr High and High School Readers

I should start by saying I am not an expert anything. I am a homeschool mom with two in college and one in high school just sharing my experience. I had one child who loved reading and two who didn't. It is hard to find books for the uninterested reader, who NEEDS to read.  When my children were younger I read everything they read. Mostly so I knew what they were consuming, but also so we could talk about it. As they got older I did this less. Both my daughters read the Hunger Games series and really liked it. I couldn't ever get into it. They were older so I didn't force myself to read it. And we still discussed it. Mostly with me listening.  My son does not love reading. He has always enjoyed audiobooks, but in high school, he needs to be able to read without the audio option to help him prepare for college.  Here are some suggestions (besides those pictured already).
