Make a Basic Christmas Tree Skirt

I threw this tree skirt together with what I had on hand already. This was a make-do project but that can be our secret. Close up of the trim application. The lining side of the skirt.

End of the Year Sewing Vlog

Image
It has been a while since I posted anything. It is that busy time of year!  I have been wrapping up projects, planning for next year, baking like crazy, and trying to enjoy some family time.  🎄 The video below is a little montage of some organizing, new accessories, and more!  Here is a close up of the feet in the video: And a few of the pretty snow. I have lots of ideas for 2020! I can't wait to share them with you! ❄ ❅ ❆

Peppermint Bark Pretzles

Image
We made these sweet treats to give away this year.  Ingredients: Almond bark, mini pretzels, crushed peppermint candy, and 1-2 drops Vitality Peppermint oil from Young Living. If you want to know more about cooking with essential oils click here! I started with half the package of almond bark broken into chunks in my 2 cup pyrex measuring cup. Set the measuring cup into a small pot of water on the stove on low-medium heat (double boiler). Stir occasionally. Once fully melted remove the measuring cup from the water. Now is the time to drop just one to two drops of your Young Living Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil in.  Drop in a few pretzels at a time to coat. My favorite tool for dipping pretzels is a stainless steel chopstick! Lay the coated pretzels on parchment paper and sprinkle with the crushed peppermint candy.  Once cool, I packaged them in cellophane cones and tied with a cute curling ribbon. These were sim...

Nesting for the Robbins

Image
We have been in Kansas full time since Sept 10! It's been a journey. Our first day and night in our new house was on air mattresses with one diffuser going.  Our sweet Peaches stayed in a doggy hotel during our transition and was so happy to have her family back. We missed her so much! No furniture but lots to explore! This was my second time to be surprised on this staircase by this crazy kid. The first time he was hiding in the storage bench under the window and rose out like Bela Lugosi in Mummy. Furniture day was crazy! I am so thankful for the moving guys who carried all our stuff up and down the stairs all day! WOW! They were super friendly and nice too.  This kid put all his furniture together and helped so much!  The first week my hubby was traveling and I decided to get as much done as I could. Did I mention we have stairs? Lots of stairs.  I was getting way over 20000 steps a day. I felt like I had run tw...

Jesse Tree devotions for Advent.

Image
Are you looking for a Christmas devotion? Last year I did this on with my ladies Bible Study group. I can't recommend it enough. Get yours at Amazon .com As part of the devotion, you can make a Jesse tree and ornaments. I printed out each day's ornament and trimmed it in glitter scrapbook paper. I used a large glass vase filled sand and Christmassy glass pebbles.  I found flocked and crystal-crusted tree branches at Hobby Lobby for the actual Jesse Tree. Here is the naked tree ready for an ornament a day. The finished ornaments are simple and sparkly. I chose not to put a hole and string on them. Instead, I am hanging them with tiny clothespins. Here is the tree with about half the ornaments on it.  These beautiful ornaments are for sale if you don't want to make your own, for about $150.00 at  DaySpring. I want a Christmas that whispers Jesus.  Ann Voskamp ...

Amish Friendship Bread

Image
This is a versatile, fun, sweet bread that is great for giving in the starter or  finished form. If no one has given you a starter, no worries it is easy to start your own. Follow the recipe below. On the daily chart, it will be day one.  If you forget to stir one day or don't add on day 5, it won't ruin the starter. As long as you do stir fairly regularly and feed in once a week it will live.               Amish Friendship Bread NOTE: Do not refrigerate starter. It is normal for the batter to rise and ferment. If air builds up, let it out (we called this burping). Do not use metal bowl or spoons until you are ready to bake your starter. The fermentation process and metal do not mix. Day 1: Do nothing. Day 2: Stir. Day 3: Stir. Day 4: Stir. Day 5: Stir. Day 6: Add to the bag: 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Stir. Day 7: Stir. Day 8: Stir. Day 9: Stir. Day 10: Follow the directions below: 1.    ...
