Sewing Room / Office Update

Image
I have been loving my special space for months now. Choosing all the special things to embellish my room has been a slow work in progress. Here is where I am today. I just added this ghost chair and the shuttered mirror. The hunt for a mirror has been on for months. This one was on the clearance aisle this week and I was thrilled! The flower swag is staying in some form but I'm not loving it the way it is. Ghost chair, because it's functional, visually minimal,  and kinda cool.   Sewing corner!! My little lap quilt is finally bound and has little loops to hang it with. For now, it will live on my wall. I want to hand quilt it so I take it down and work on it and put it back up. :) I have a quilt update too, look under the Create and Craft tab at the top. My hubby painted the dress form stand to match my room and added wonderful rollers. Now, I can wheel it where I want and drape or fit in comfort. The poster in the corner is a hand-me-down from my daughter...

Staying on track while running the treadmill of life

Image
All the holiday decorations are stashed back in the attic. The cupboards have been purged (mostly) of the junkie treats we indulged in for the last 6 weeks. The fridge is stocked with veggies and fruit.  Now what?  Small bites. Most of my to do list is elephant sized projects.  "How do you eat and elephant? One bite at a time." It is overwhelming. I have loads of purging to do in closets. There are some big health issues to get under control. Add in the everyday schooling, chores, parenting, financial stresses and life surprises - it's time to go back to bed!  Here is where I started. With me. I know selfish right? I really couldn't see me moving forward at any pace while my ongoing battle with Hashimotos wasn't in check.  Low thyroid affects every part of your body. It can wreak havoc with emotions, energy levels, and health. I noticed my thyroid swelling again, joint pain on the increase, sleep issues creeping in. One big sign fo...

Taking Inventory

Image
It is the end of the year and time to take inventory. I'm doing this literally and figuratively for the next few days. Not because it's the end of the year (though that works too), but because I have some free time and can really focus on it!  First step is some easy stuff. Oil Inventory - I get loads of free oils and supplements from Young Living. I am working on a spread sheet of my excess so I can order efficiently .  This will also help when a friend calls and asks if I have an extra oil they are desperate for.  Oils in use.                                                              My extras!                                                      ...

The Portable Sewing Classroom

Image
This is my van before I leave to teach sewing. There are 2 sewing machines, 20 binders, fabric, 2 cutting boards, my large tote bag with my teacher things, and a giant rolling tool box. I travel once a a week to teach sewing at my son's home school group. That giant rolling toolbox has sewing supplies like scissors, pins, tape measures etc. as well as handouts. I bring it back and forth every week. Hopefully most of the rest of the items will be stored at the facility. Every week we put up and tear down a complete sewing classroom for 5 students at a time including 5 machines, ironing boards, and cutting boards. By the end of the 8 hours of class I will have 29 students, boys and girls, junior high and high school ages come through my classroom.   This one day each week is such a blessing to me! I love teaching a skill to my students, but even more is the spark of creativity that grows through the year. These creative kids do amazing things!

Scripture Flower

Image
I am starting two new Bible studies this week, both I am in some way facilitating at least some of the time.  Part of Bible study for me is memory work. Usually I write my memory verses on index cards and post them all over the house, carry one in my purse, crochet bag, and Bible. Today, however, I was inspired to make it beautiful and fun. Like a gift every time I worked on my verse.  This is my Scripture Flower. I made it from scraps of scrapbook paper.  I didn't have any double sided paper to so I glued some together. Try it and the Word will bloom in you!
