DIY Non-Toxic Wax Melts

Image
One of the many things I replaced in my home was all the fragrance products.  I no longer use store-bought air fresheners, most candles, and wax melts because of the toxic fragrance in them.  I think I was saddest about the wax melts because I had so many cute warming pots. I found it was easy and very inexpensive to make my own. I also noticed that the fragrance was purer. The easiest way to use your wax warmers is to put a little coconut oil in a drop or two of pure organic food extracts like vanilla or a few drops of essential oil. That is is it! Essential oils are heat sensitive and if you have super hot warmers they may not work as well. I have had good success with mine though. Also, not all food extracts smell good. If you choose to go that route it will take some trial and error. Vanilla is usually pretty safe though.  Pure Coconut oil with 1/4 tsp pure vanilla and 2 drops Young Living cinnamon bark essential oil . I...

Jesse Tree devotions for Advent.

Image
Are you looking for a Christmas devotion? Last year I did this on with my ladies Bible Study group. I can't recommend it enough. Get yours at Amazon .com As part of the devotion, you can make a Jesse tree and ornaments. I printed out each day's ornament and trimmed it in glitter scrapbook paper. I used a large glass vase filled sand and Christmassy glass pebbles.  I found flocked and crystal-crusted tree branches at Hobby Lobby for the actual Jesse Tree. Here is the naked tree ready for an ornament a day. The finished ornaments are simple and sparkly. I chose not to put a hole and string on them. Instead, I am hanging them with tiny clothespins. Here is the tree with about half the ornaments on it.  These beautiful ornaments are for sale if you don't want to make your own, for about $150.00 at  DaySpring. I want a Christmas that whispers Jesus.  Ann Voskamp ...

Amish Friendship Bread

Image
This is a versatile, fun, sweet bread that is great for giving in the starter or  finished form. If no one has given you a starter, no worries it is easy to start your own. Follow the recipe below. On the daily chart, it will be day one.  If you forget to stir one day or don't add on day 5, it won't ruin the starter. As long as you do stir fairly regularly and feed in once a week it will live.               Amish Friendship Bread NOTE: Do not refrigerate starter. It is normal for the batter to rise and ferment. If air builds up, let it out (we called this burping). Do not use metal bowl or spoons until you are ready to bake your starter. The fermentation process and metal do not mix. Day 1: Do nothing. Day 2: Stir. Day 3: Stir. Day 4: Stir. Day 5: Stir. Day 6: Add to the bag: 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Stir. Day 7: Stir. Day 8: Stir. Day 9: Stir. Day 10: Follow the directions below: 1.    ...
