Simplicity 8799 ~ Vintage Look Nightgown

Image
Here is a lovely vintage pattern that has been brought back! It is quick and easy, great for a new sewist. However, the simplicity makes it a great option for adding lace, using interesting fabrics, and playing around with trims.  Easily make a whole collection of new nighties with this pattern! Simplicity 8124 - Make a dress in a few hours!

Image
First of all, the sound at the beginning of the video is a mess. It does get better! I was so disappointed because I did a soundcheck and it was fine. :( Hang on past the overview and it is much better!  This adorable pattern is a great one for a new sewist. It only took a few hours to cut out and sew. This is a project you can make in the morning and wear in the afternoon! Close up of the lovely border print. Vintage Style Peignoir Robe

Image
This is a truly vintage-inspired project. The pattern is a Delores of St Paul from  1971. It is divided into two videos below. Video 1 is all about the pattern and the minor alterations I made to it. Take a look to see the pattern instructions and other vintage patterns in my collection. Plus, I show the lovely fabric I will be using for the project. In video 2 I sew it up and show  it off. The fabrics really gave this a vintage Hollywood look.

McCalls 7390 - Addressing Accessability - Adding a Zipper

Image
One of the benefits of sewing your own clothes is being able to address issues with wearability and wardrobe. I adapt this pattern by adding a zipper and make it easier to put on for someone with mobility limitations. Information for making this top with or without the zipper is provided. The fabric is Lapis Leaves designed by Suzan Engler from QTFabrics available from quilt shops and Etsy sellers. I try on the top just for fun. It is not meant to be as fitted as it is on me. The pattern is designed with enough wearing ease to be pulled over the head, which is obviously missing when you see me wearing it. :0) If you like my videos, please consider subscribing to my YouTube channel! 👉  My YouTube Channel  👍

Pattern Making Class #1 - Skirt Basics

Image
Welcome to pattern making class! We will start off with some basics that will be used all the time. I show how to move the dart ease to the hem, add additional fullness to the hem and add godets. All the patterns I make are done in half scale. The resources video is linked below and in the video. I think it really helps to see how the patterns look when sewn up. So the end of the video shows our work in muslin. Now go forth and create! My TeeSpring Shop :  Sewing With Stacy Facebook Community:

Check out my review before you make this project, especially if you are plus size. I don't hate it but... It definitely isn't meant to a fuller figure. Make the shirt I am wearing in the video!

McCalls 7682 - Shirtwaist Dress

Image
I L💗VE this dress! It has been a while since I have made a project with lots of little details. The collar, button placket, drawstring sleeves and waist, and the hi-ow skirt; this dress has it all. It is flattering and so easy to wear. Did I mention that I love this pattern? Timestamps in the description on YouTube hi-lo skirt

Burda 6345 ~ One Day Sew ~ Knit Tunic

Ready for another great fast project this week? This took only a few hours from cutting to hem. Do you have a directional or striped knit and have been waiting for the perfect pattern? This may be it! Make sure to check out the pattern prep and cutting layout if you are a new sewist. It was easy but could be confusing to some from the pattern info. There are timestamps in the Youtube description.

Are you ready for another one day project? This adorable vintage top took only 2 hours! (If you are a beginner sewist expect it to take longer.)   I show how to add a lining for better coverage.  Pattern: Simplicity 5555 Fabric: Polyester jersey knit from JoAnn Fabrics Machine: Bernina 770QE

Vogue R10569 ~ Bias Cut Dress ~ Sew With Me

Image
Let's sew up another great pattern this week! This one is fashion-forward and still a quick and easy project. Don't worry about fitting with this soft, drapey, body-skimming dress. It is a dream to wear. Pro Tip: Do not hang bias garments. They will stretch and grow, and the hem will become uneven. Note: I shortened the hem by 4 inches. Pattern: Vogue R10569 (Tom and Linda Platt) Fabric: https://www.fabric.com/buy/0537773/telio-colorado-crepe-de-chine-grid-black-white Sewing Machine: Bernina 770QEE Overlock: Bernette 334D If you click through to YouTube, there are timestamps in the description. Thank you for sewing with me!

McCalls 7862 ~ Sew With Me an Underlined Linen Dresss

Image
I need to tell you that I really like this pattern. The sleeve variations are adorable!   I used the View A sleeve and the View B hemline. This is a comfy, soft, easy to wear dress. Especially since I underlined it. It feels amazing on. A few things I didn't realize until I was well into construction was: 1. The neckline has a yoke, not a facing. 2. The hem I chose is faced. These were actually better options, but I would have cut my yoke more carefully, lining up the fabric design better, if I had realized. This was totally my fault for not investigating it. The video has timestamps in the YouTube description if you click through to watch. One thing I will change if I do this pattern again is to cut the top portion of the dress in a smaller size. The hip is perfect! The bust line, especially in the back is big. This is something I deal with all the time.  The fabric is a linen blend from JoAnn Fabrics.  Machines used: Bernina 770 QEE, Be...

Butterick 4685 ~ Sew With Me ~ Easy Beginner Top

Image
This little peasant top is another great beginner pattern. For an experienced sewist, this is an hour project. I ended up cutting down the neckline elastic 7 inches from the patterns recommended size. ✂ Please note: I added two inches in length to this pattern. So check the length before cutting!  Are you sewing? What creative thing are you working on? I want to know!
