Curveball - Big Changes & New Stages

Image
I am a 47-year-old woman with 2 grown children in college and one half-way through high school. My husband is about 10 years from retirement. We are in the settled down and settled in stage of life.  I have ministries I love and a rewarding part-time job where I feel like I make a difference. I would say content pretty well sums up life for us. Well, things are about to change and change fast! This summer began with a fast trip to move the college kids out of the dorm and home for a short 2 months, before settling them in their apartment back at school. One college daughter didn't even come home but left immediately for a 2 week trip to the east coast with one of her classes.  Now we are prepping our home of 6 years in a community we have lived in for over 17 years to move to a new state! How did this happen? I have lived in the state of Oklahoma for 41 years! Can I tell you God began preparing our hearts last year? It is amazing how he does things. I would say a...

The Portable Sewing Classroom

Image
This is my van before I leave to teach sewing. There are 2 sewing machines, 20 binders, fabric, 2 cutting boards, my large tote bag with my teacher things, and a giant rolling tool box. I travel once a a week to teach sewing at my son's home school group. That giant rolling toolbox has sewing supplies like scissors, pins, tape measures etc. as well as handouts. I bring it back and forth every week. Hopefully most of the rest of the items will be stored at the facility. Every week we put up and tear down a complete sewing classroom for 5 students at a time including 5 machines, ironing boards, and cutting boards. By the end of the 8 hours of class I will have 29 students, boys and girls, junior high and high school ages come through my classroom.   This one day each week is such a blessing to me! I love teaching a skill to my students, but even more is the spark of creativity that grows through the year. These creative kids do amazing things!

I have a thing for color!

I color code my already colorful planner.  I'm a sucker for bright pens and pencils. My yarn stash looks like rainbow trimmings. Don't get me started on purses!  This is the Infuse starter pack.  Check it out by clicking  Infuse Notebook

My son is going to his first sleep over in over a year.  Since his pain has grown and become unpredictable and his nights have been some of his worst times, sleepovers have been impossible.  I am excited, and so is he, for this simple childhood event to be back in his life! This is a trial run.  He will only be a few miles away and with people we trust completely.  It's not so simple though.  Not only do we pack his clothes but also his medications.  Each dose in its own baggie with instructions.   This is just to get him through the night.  So here is the biggest challenge for me.  It isn't letting him go - I so want him to have every "normal" good childhood experience he can.  It is trying not to overwhelm the family in whose care he will be. Not sending pages of detailed instructions with a timeline and explanations for each medication.  I know they will call if there is any question about anything.  I keep telling m...

Happy Oils

Image
This is how we do it every morning. I will add our night-time protocol later. Nights are just difficult.  Since doing the 'happy oils' my son copes better with the pain.  He says he even when he still hurts it doesn't bother him as much. He can play, do school, and be a goof.  I'm not a doctor. DO NOT stop medications with out your doctors help. Always check for drug interactions. This helped our family, maybe it will help yours.

Scripture Flower

Image
I am starting two new Bible studies this week, both I am in some way facilitating at least some of the time.  Part of Bible study for me is memory work. Usually I write my memory verses on index cards and post them all over the house, carry one in my purse, crochet bag, and Bible. Today, however, I was inspired to make it beautiful and fun. Like a gift every time I worked on my verse.  This is my Scripture Flower. I made it from scraps of scrapbook paper.  I didn't have any double sided paper to so I glued some together. Try it and the Word will bloom in you!
