Let's Fix Those Shallow Pockets on Ladies Pants

Image
I know I am not alone in noticing how skimpy pockets are in ladies clothing. I was comparing my jean pockets to my husbands and it was pretty annoying.  His pockets went midway down his thigh where mine were finished just below the pocket opening. That is less than two inches deep!   Any other ladies have their phone fall our of their front pocket just by bending over? I use my pockets and they need to be practical.  In today's video, I add an extension to my jean pockets and get deep pockets!  Check out my other sewing related videos on the playlist Sewing and Such  If you like my video please consider clicking "like" and "subscribe." YouTube has changed their algorithm and it is the only way others may eventually find my videos. :)

Sew with Me ~ Embroidered Net Dress

Image
This is one of my favorite projects I've made this year.  In the video, I make the entire dress and chat a lot.   🔽   Sew along with me in the video below! 🔽 In this video, I show how to cut the different layers of the dress, laying out the border print along hemlines, box pleats, underling, lining, invisible zipper, pocket installation, French seams, overlock seams, and bias binding. A few details about this project: ~pattern: Butterick 6415 ~fabric from JoAnn's Fabric, lace embroidered netting, polyester lining, polyester crepe (underlining) ~I used the decorative edge of the net lace to finish the sleeve and hem and back neckline ~Sewing machine: Bernina 770QE ~Overlock/Serger: Bernina 334DS I've worn this dress twice so far. The first time was at the wedding I made it for.  The second was to a dinner theater date for our anniversary.    See my whole sewing playlist here!

Health Update - Parry Romberg & Trigeminal Neuralgia

Image
Here is the history -  (if you want to skip this scroll down to the next bolded section) I don't post a lot about my son's medical condition. He was diagnosed with Parry Romberg Syndrome at 5 years old. I knew something was wrong starting at 2 1/2. It took over two years and lots of doctors to get a diagnosis and start treatment.  Because PRS is a rare disease, ( Click the link to learn more about  Parry Romberg Syndrome .) there hasn't been much research or treatment history for this condition. We were so fortunate to find a doctor who happened to read an article about it, start some research and figure it out.  Beginning treatment at age 5 slowed the atrophy and scarring that characterizes most PRS patients. His symptoms and pain went into remission at age 5 with the treatment of steroids and low dose chemo. He went for nearly 4 years with check-ups and no medication. We were so thankful! The remission ended at when he was 9 with a stroke-like episode out of nowh

Life Update (part 1) The General Stuff.

Image
Where to begin? So much has changed in less than a year. Here is what has happened since moving to Kansas in September of 2018. 1. I am no longer teaching sewing in the classroom. (insert tears here) I still hope to teach again. I love it and miss it. A few attempts at video tutorials have been made. I am still figuring it all out. The editing software has made it very frustrating and I need to get the videos more polished. You can see what I have been working on here:  Sewing and Such 2. Some of my time has been spent staying with my parents and helping my sister out in the country. I have always done this, but there have been some surgeries, etc in the last few months.  I can't explain how being in this particular place with my family recharges me.  Stunning sunset at the ranch. 3. As always with moving we had to set up new doctors and dentists. But having a child with a rare disease makes changing doctors an event. We have been traveling from Oklahoma to Texa

Sew With Me ~ A Fast Liquid Lame' Shirt

Image
I made a fast liquid lame' shirt for my sis this week. The project took just less than 2 hours actual time to complete including pattern prep. A few details about this project: pattern: Vogue 9057 (Marcy Tilton R10066) fabric from JoAnn's Fabric: liquid lame' knit I did not hem the sleeve or bottom of the shirt because it made the hem bulky and it would not drape softly. This fabric is knit and does not fray. Sewing machine: Bernina 770QE Want to see more sewing videos? Check out my Youtube channel. Interested in learning more about essential oils? Click here.

How Do I Wind a Bobbin Anyway?

Image
This weeks video is all about bobbins and how to get thread on them.  See other sewing related videos here:  Sews2Reap YouTube Channel

Parts of the Sewing Machine and Threading

Image
Let's learn the names of the parts of the machine and how to thread it up. This is a basic tutorial on two different machines with traditional style bobbins.  Here you can see the size difference between the two machines!  I didn't label the feed dogs because there just wasn't room, but they are the jagged teeth below the presser foot on both machines.  The spool pin is on the back of this machine.  I have more sewing videos up  on my YouTube Channel . Much more to come!

Thieves Toothpaste makes the best deodorant!

Image
If you are like me you have been trying lots of toxin-free personal products. I have even tried making my own pit paste and stick deodorant. For a few years I have been using Young Living Deodorant and I like it! They have two scents, both are nice.  They are safe products that even children can use without worry. (if you have kids you know some need deo early 😳) A friend mentioned that she was traveling and forgot her deodorant  so she used her Thieves Aromabrite toothpaste as pit paste. She raved about how well it worked and she now only uses it. So I decided to do a little experiment of my own and try it out.  My conclusion after a week of only using toothpaste for deodorant, I am a convert! Here is what I found. It only takes a tiny pea size, I have NO body odor even after 24 hours. I don't have to re-apply (this may change in the heat of summer). It feels smooth, not sticky, dries fast, and doesn't stain my clothes.  It is a winner!   Here is a traveler
