Nesting for the Robbins

Image
We have been in Kansas full time since Sept 10! It's been a journey. Our first day and night in our new house was on air mattresses with one diffuser going.  Our sweet Peaches stayed in a doggy hotel during our transition and was so happy to have her family back. We missed her so much! No furniture but lots to explore! This was my second time to be surprised on this staircase by this crazy kid. The first time he was hiding in the storage bench under the window and rose out like Bela Lugosi in Mummy. Furniture day was crazy! I am so thankful for the moving guys who carried all our stuff up and down the stairs all day! WOW! They were super friendly and nice too.  This kid put all his furniture together and helped so much!  The first week my hubby was traveling and I decided to get as much done as I could. Did I mention we have stairs? Lots of stairs.  I was getting way over 20000 steps a day. I felt like I had run tw...

Summer Slowdown

Image
This is the summer of transition and boy do I feel it. In one month both of my daughters will move out of state to college.    We had to take time out and escape to the country. I needed some time with my parents and sister and the kids did too.   Giant old magnolia. Rolling hills in all directions... Cicada shell hanging out in the secret garden. It's really no secret, but my son named it so. It is this neat little area with a trellis entrance under an old apple tree.  The sounds are so different away from the city. The Bob Whites were calling in the pasture, along with the cow birds. The hum of all the invisible insect life was amazing. One of the many treasures, a painting by my grandmother. I know it's a mess, but I was a spring roll making machine! This keeps me on track with my weight watchers. See that old cutting board, it has to be at least 50 years old.  One of the many beautiful pastures.  ...

The Portable Sewing Classroom

Image
This is my van before I leave to teach sewing. There are 2 sewing machines, 20 binders, fabric, 2 cutting boards, my large tote bag with my teacher things, and a giant rolling tool box. I travel once a a week to teach sewing at my son's home school group. That giant rolling toolbox has sewing supplies like scissors, pins, tape measures etc. as well as handouts. I bring it back and forth every week. Hopefully most of the rest of the items will be stored at the facility. Every week we put up and tear down a complete sewing classroom for 5 students at a time including 5 machines, ironing boards, and cutting boards. By the end of the 8 hours of class I will have 29 students, boys and girls, junior high and high school ages come through my classroom.   This one day each week is such a blessing to me! I love teaching a skill to my students, but even more is the spark of creativity that grows through the year. These creative kids do amazing things!

I color code my already colorful planner.  I'm a sucker for bright pens and pencils. My yarn stash looks like rainbow trimmings. Don't get me started on purses!  This is the Infuse starter pack.  Check it out by clicking  Infuse Notebook

What Parry Romberg looks like at our house

Image
When diagnosed with a syndrome, you quickly learn it a a big umbrella with lots of conditions under it. This is how it looks for my son.  We have found excellent care, and a good mix of prescriptions and essential oils to keep him happy and healthy.  He has more issues on the inside where they can't be seen. His external scars are minimal compared to what is going on inside physically. Currently, our favorite essential oil is Cedarwood . It helps him with pain, mood, and sleep. We often combine it with Vetiver , especially during school, when he has trouble concentrating through the pain. Another oil we use daily is Clove . It helps with the neuralgia electric shock pain because of its wonderful natural numbing effect. Parry Romberg kids are some of the toughest you will meet!  They have known chronic pain way too early in life.

I Will Praise Him in the Storm

I will praise Him in the storm. The storm front is on my door step lately.  Our house is peaceful, full of love, and kindness and true safe place in this crazy world. But the storm still rages.   Unfortunately, when the weather changes, like a cold front moving through, my son's headaches are barely manageable.  Fall is on the way, we have had a few weather fronts move through and the pain level for my kiddo has been high and difficult.  We had been enjoying a day or two at a time of almost no pain, but now we are thankful for an hour or two with manageable pain.  I know the pain storm will pass, but it is hard to listen to it rage not know how long or intense it will be.  One thing we do is list things we are thankful for, a way to distract from the pain and feel hope in our hearts.  A hard Eucharisteo as Ann Voscamp, author of "1000 Gifts" calls it. My son will list his friends, toys, comic books, puppy, and so on.  Things that give him ...
