Vogue R10569 ~ Bias Cut Dress ~ Sew With Me

Image
Let's sew up another great pattern this week! This one is fashion-forward and still a quick and easy project. Don't worry about fitting with this soft, drapey, body-skimming dress. It is a dream to wear. Pro Tip: Do not hang bias garments. They will stretch and grow, and the hem will become uneven. Note: I shortened the hem by 4 inches. Pattern: Vogue R10569 (Tom and Linda Platt) Fabric: https://www.fabric.com/buy/0537773/telio-colorado-crepe-de-chine-grid-black-white Sewing Machine: Bernina 770QEE Overlock: Bernette 334D If you click through to YouTube, there are timestamps in the description. Let's Fix Those Shallow Pockets on Ladies Pants

Image
I know I am not alone in noticing how skimpy pockets are in ladies clothing. I was comparing my jean pockets to my husbands and it was pretty annoying.  His pockets went midway down his thigh where mine were finished just below the pocket opening. That is less than two inches deep!   Any other ladies have their phone fall our of their front pocket just by bending over? I use my pockets and they need to be practical.  In today's video, I add an extension to my jean pockets and get deep pockets!  Check out my other sewing related videos on the playlist Sewing and Such  If you like my video please consider clicking "like" and "subscribe." Life Update (part 1) The General Stuff.

Image
Where to begin? So much has changed in less than a year. Here is what has happened since moving to Kansas in September of 2018. 1. I am no longer teaching sewing in the classroom. (insert tears here) I still hope to teach again. I love it and miss it. A few attempts at video tutorials have been made. I am still figuring it all out. The editing software has made it very frustrating and I need to get the videos more polished. You can see what I have been working on here:  Sewing and Such 2. Some of my time has been spent staying with my parents and helping my sister out in the country. I have always done this, but there have been some surgeries, etc in the last few months.  I can't explain how being in this particular place with my family recharges me.  Stunning sunset at the ranch. 3. As always with moving we had to set up new doctors and dentists. But having a child with a rare disease makes changing doctors an event. We have been traveling from Oklaho...

Sew With Me ~ A Fast Liquid Lame' Shirt

Image
I made a fast liquid lame' shirt for my sis this week. The project took just less than 2 hours actual time to complete including pattern prep. A few details about this project: pattern: Vogue 9057 (Marcy Tilton R10066) fabric from JoAnn's Fabric: liquid lame' knit I did not hem the sleeve or bottom of the shirt because it made the hem bulky and it would not drape softly. This fabric is knit and does not fray. Sewing machine: Bernina 770QE Want to see more sewing videos? Check out my Youtube channel. Interested in learning more about essential oils? Click here.

Parts of the Sewing Machine and Threading

Image
Let's learn the names of the parts of the machine and how to thread it up. This is a basic tutorial on two different machines with traditional style bobbins.  Here you can see the size difference between the two machines!  I didn't label the feed dogs because there just wasn't room, but they are the jagged teeth below the presser foot on both machines.  The spool pin is on the back of this machine.  I have more sewing videos up  on my YouTube Channel . Much more to come!
