Caregiver Planning and Complicated Medicine Schedules

Image
I have been the caregiver for a child with a rare condition for over  13 years. Recently, I spent some time caregiving for my mom after major surgery. Both of these experiences have made me aware of how important it is to have a medical plan whether you are the caregiver or the one needing some help. In the case of temporary caregiving. My mom had printed out all of her medications and gathered them together so we could help with dosing during recovery. Post surgery, she was unable to help with when she took what med, and what they were for. I did have the release papers from the hospital and found they were less helpful than I had hoped. In the end, we made a chart for her maintenance medications and supplements and a separate one for the post-op meds. It took some time researching what the meds were for, if any had interactions with the post-op meds, and if they had to be taken separately. I included the time of day to take, amou...

You have more control than you know, Part 2 household products

Image
This week we are tackling all the toxins in our household products. A quick note. I will be using "toxins" instead of "chemicals" when discussing the bad things in our environment. Everything God made contains the elements from the Periodic Table of chemical elements. All natural things can be broken down or discussed in elemental form or as elemental compounds. The problem is not the chemical constituents in natural items, The problem is with synthetic toxins.  Giving up Bath & Bodyworks Japanese Cherry Blossom may seem cruel. It is your signature scent. Everyone knows you are in the room because of it. Many know you are there because they get an instant headache and their sinuses stuff up. That is what happens  when our bodies are subjected to synthetic scents.   Here is a blog I did in the past with lots of info on the dangers of synthetic toxins . I won't repeat everything here but check it out!  For our family, bec...

Inner Defnese and Winter Wellness

Image
I posted recently about the Raindrop Roller and how we use it to keep above the wellness line. Today I want to share our other favorite product that promotes wellness, Inner Defense softgels. This simple supplement had been a mainstay in our house for a few years. If anyone starts to drop below the wellness line they get a softgel. Depending on what their fighting we take up to 3 a day. That combined with Thieves oil, and/or the Raindrop roller and we are back up to wellness in no time.  What is in it? How much does it cost?  If you are a wholesale member of Young Living it costs about 90¢ a softgel! If you really want a 1- 2 punch for wellness add the Life 9 probiotic and give your immune system a big boost! I have a child with a suppresses immune system who cannot have any over the counter meds or most prescriptions due to a drug interaction. If it weren't for the natural options he would have to live in a bubble. BUT, he doesn't. He d...

Update on our wellness journey

I know it has been a while since I have been on here. February has been a full month with visits to my son's specialists in Dallas, two birthdays and lots of pain for my sweet boy.  Some good things are happening along the way. For some time now our family has been trying to clean up out eating. We are eating less and less processed food and heavy meats, while we increased seafood, and fresh fruits and vegetables. You can read about the beginning of this journey here  Simple Does Not Mean Easy I know it's basic stuff and we are still striving. Some family members struggle more than others. If you were to look in on us you would see the lines are drawn boys vs. girls. My oldest has been doing the best, as she cut out all meat, sodas, and most processed foods. She loves seafood and vegetables. My other daughter is also a very healthy and wise eater, and more disciplined about exercise.  The whole family has been trying to get this one area right be...
