Update on our wellness journey
I know it has been a while since I have been on here. February has been a full month with visits to my son's specialists in Dallas, two birthdays and lots of pain for my sweet boy.
Some good things are happening along the way. For some time now our family has been trying to clean up out eating. We are eating less and less processed food and heavy meats, while we increased seafood, and fresh fruits and vegetables. You can read about the beginning of this journey here Simple Does Not Mean Easy
I know it's basic stuff and we are still striving. Some family members struggle more than others. If you were to look in on us you would see the lines are drawn boys vs. girls. My oldest has been doing the best, as she cut out all meat, sodas, and most processed foods. She loves seafood and vegetables. My other daughter is also a very healthy and wise eater, and more disciplined about exercise.
The whole family has been trying to get this one area right because we know how much it helps my son's condition (and we will all benefit from choosing healthy over junk).
So here is an update. I expected to loose all my weight with our new choices but just didn't happen. I feel great! I sleep better. I have less joint, and back pain. My energy level is way up and I am able to accomplish so much more during the day. Still a fluffy mommy, though.
My solution, I joined Weight Watchers with my mom-in-law. The accountability of the meetings along with a guideline of eating has done the trick. It has been 6 weeks and I am down a little over a pound a week! I have done WW in the past, and I have to say this is the healthiest, most well-rounded plan they have done. If you click the tab Wellness Journey, I am going to show a few of my favorite foods that have really helped me on the WW Smart Points plan.
Two things I sort of knew, but were really evident once I started Weight Watchers are:
1. I am a stress eater
2. I like quantity
My hubby has the same two issues along with food cravings. Now he doesn't have much to lose, even though he eats the most junk of anyone in out family. In the past, he was my saboteur. Always wanting to eat out, go get ice cream at 9 at night, or prepare a meal of all meat and fried foods. He also would turn down a healthy meal and go get fast food if he was craving it. These are things we are working on. He is much better about my saying no to his ice cream run and fried food frenzy. I told him I will go with you but I won't eat. He was unhappy at first but now it is okay. He wants my company, and I am not ruining all my hard work trying to lose weight and get healthy.
Trying to figure out what to eat? Are you walking this path too? You can do it! I have Hashimotos (thyroid disease), and a very bad back, and my own portion of stress, but I am still losing!
Here is to being cute and smaller by spring!
