Two Totes from Scraps ~ Sew with me!

Image
This week's video is a true sew-along.  I make two totes using up large scraps. The bags are made to make the best use of the fabric pieces I had. The first bag is the smaller one. It uses about half a yard of fabric. and is lined. The second bag is larger unlined and used about a yard of fabric total or half a yard of two fabrics.  Bonus at the end where I show how to make a false bottom or plastic inserts for stability.  In this week's video, you really get to see how I design and work.  Supplies needed: woven fabric, interfacing, thread   My TeeSpring Shop Sewing With Stacy Facebook Community   Make a matching zipper bag Sewing Machine: Bernina 770QE Overlock/Serger: Bernina L890

Upcycle T-shirts into Dresses

Image
I have lots of t-shirts that fit fine but aren't long enough. They are perfect for this kind of project. I even show how to use the leftover t-shirt fabric to make a pocket!  Check out my first go at this project here where I make a children's version. McCalls 2156 -Linen Button Down

Image
Who is ready for some spring sewing? I am! This lovely linen top is a good beginner pattern. I used natural shell buttons on this 100% linen fabric. It is elegant and easy wearing, perfect for an over-jacket. close up of the topstitching buttonhole and button topstitching at the sideseam

Simplicity 9017 Top - Sew With Me

Image
Last week I made the pants in this pattern. This week we make the top! This is a good beginner pattern with a mod style. It gives me Star Trek vibes. I give a full review at the end of the video. There are timestamps in the video if you click through to watch on YouTube.

Simplicity 9017- Pants

Image
Simple and fashionable is just my style! This Simplicity pattern is a great beginner pattern but looks interesting and current.  This week I make the pants, next week the top. I added a little pocket for my phone too, because pants without pockets... Nope.

Kwik Sew 3881 - This is the one!

Image
I have been looking for a current pattern that is close to the vintage one I love. This is it! The View  A is almost exactly like my pattern from the 1950s. If you are wanting to make some vintage styles this pattern will get you there!  It comes with 4 styles in one envelope: brief, bikini, hipster, and thong all available in all sizes.  This year I am planning to do a lingerie/sleepwear type project as the first project of each month! I have added a lingerie/sleepwear playlis t on my youtube channel. . Timestamps available if you click through to YouTube If you are enjoying my videos please consider subscribing on Youtube! McCalls 7862 ~ Sew With Me an Underlined Linen Dresss

Image
I need to tell you that I really like this pattern. The sleeve variations are adorable!   I used the View A sleeve and the View B hemline. This is a comfy, soft, easy to wear dress. Especially since I underlined it. It feels amazing on. A few things I didn't realize until I was well into construction was: 1. The neckline has a yoke, not a facing. 2. The hem I chose is faced. These were actually better options, but I would have cut my yoke more carefully, lining up the fabric design better, if I had realized. This was totally my fault for not investigating it. The video has timestamps in the YouTube description if you click through to watch. One thing I will change if I do this pattern again is to cut the top portion of the dress in a smaller size. The hip is perfect! The bust line, especially in the back is big. This is something I deal with all the time.  The fabric is a linen blend from JoAnn Fabrics.  Machines used: Bernina 770 QEE, Be...

Butterick 4685 ~ Sew With Me ~ Easy Beginner Top

Image
This little peasant top is another great beginner pattern. For an experienced sewist, this is an hour project. I ended up cutting down the neckline elastic 7 inches from the patterns recommended size. ✂ Please note: I added two inches in length to this pattern. So check the length before cutting!  Are you sewing? What creative thing are you working on? I want to know!

Scrunchies from Scraps!

Image
You can never have enough scrunchies! I find that almost every project I make I will have a scrap the right size to make scrunchie to match. This is a great beginner project. Lengthen the fabric strip for a more gathered scrunchie. Reduce the elastic length for a tighter scrunchie. To make the size I did you need: a strip of fabric 22" by 3" 1/4" wide elastic 9" long

Draft a Pattern from a T-shirt

Image
I have been looking for a good raglan sleeve T-shirt pattern and haven't found one yet so I am going to draft my own using a shirt I already have as a template. This is a very simple way to copy a readymade garment that you like and want to make again. If you like my videos, please consider subscribing to my Youtube channel and liking the videos. Revisiting Old Projects and A Crazy Easter Weekend

Image
This year is just so different. I love all holidays and family time. Easter is so special. I remember making beautiful satin and organza dresses for my little girls. We call this picture "grumpy babies." It is one of our favorites. These little princesses had had enough of their dad's teasing and you can see it all over those furrowed brows.  Just give us the candy already!  This week's vlog is short with a plot twist at the end! I sure missed traditional Easter this year...
