Highschool Homeschool Resources I Love
With two in college and one in high school, I am in the homestretch with this homeschool thing. We are fortunate there are so many resources available to us now.
Here are a few of my favorites that have benefitted all of my children, especially my youngest and most reluctant student. All of the options below require internet and a computer or mobile device.
These thoughtful, well-planned videos cover many subjects from Biology, History, Literature, Psychology and much more.
I have found them to be a wonderful supplement to the curriculum we are using and in some cases, the series could just about replace another curriculum. These have become so popular that many schools are now using them and PBS has even partnered with the Green brothers YouTube channel.
There are worksheets available for a few of the courses for free here.
For most of the other subjects Teachers Pay Teachers has many of the courses available for a fee. I found the US Govt set on here for about $34.00. Which is the cost of a book! They included the answer guide and were printable.
Expect more free worksheets soon, though according to the Crash Course Tumbler.
Quizlet is a website and an app! These are resources made by teachers and students to help study. You can create your own study helps too. Things like interactive flashcards and quizzes for any subject. Use the search bar to see what is already out there. We have found great science and Latin helps here. A few of our Co-Op teachers use it for online quizzes and study helps for their students.
You have probably heard about this already but it is worth repeating. Kahn Academy is great! It is free to sign up, and there are parent and student accounts available. You can watch your students progress! The videos are clear and simple and they have online quizzes to review and test their comprehension. The student earns badges for progress.
This is another that could replace an entire curriculum, or fill in when extra help is needed. They cover subjects from Kindergarten through college! I like being able to get on and learn too. Kahn also has an app that lets you work seamlessly on your phone or computer while keeping your progress.
This last one is for study skills and healthy habits. This seems to be one of the areas I see most kids struggling. Thomas Frank has videos on time management, balancing activities, job interviews, how to study, dealing with roommates, and dealing with the transition from high school to college to adult life.
He also has a college-related podcast College Info Geek.
Support those who support us!
Crash Course, Kahn Academy and Thomas Frank are free resources produced by individuals at their own expense. You can support them by donating. Crash Course and Thomas Frank have a Patreon account, and Kahn has a donation link at the bottom of the page on their website.
Another resource I use often is a worksheet generator. There are lots of free ones out there. I like to make word searches for vocabulary words in subjects like the sciences. literature or Latin. Math options are available on this site too!
