I Went to a YL Beauty School, and You Should Too!

Image
I was so fortunate to have a YL Beauty School where I live! I couldn't let this opportunity pass.  The tables had some of the products we would use for a little spa pampering. On registration night, we got to pick out our lovely boxes and pick up all the great products that would go in them. This is the box I chose.  The Beauty Book! It is like a beauty school how-to. This is my product bundle before I opened it. Oh, the suspense! There are different products each time. My box all kitted out! See that full-size Art Renewal Serum? One of my most favorite products. I was so happy!  There are samples of Sheerlume, toner, sandalwood creme, a multitasker from the Savvy Minerals line along with a misting spray... SO MUCH GOODNESS!  Did I mention we got a free lipstick from the new tangerine infused line? It looked great on everyone! Plus, two essential oils! Every beauty school is a little different, so if you go again you will ...

Making Gift Baskets for Events

Image
Our church does a silent auction in the spring and I love that I can donate to a good cause and share about my oily business. I have also donated items to teacher appreciation events.  Here is the adorable metal basket I found at Hobby Lobby ON SALE!! I went in planning on using my 40% coupon on a basket but half off is even better, and I used my coupon on something else!  This basket is shallow with two birds perched in one corner. I love it and want to go back and get myself one.  I bought an inexpensive but large capacity diffuser from Amazon. I have the box with the cord and directions that I will send home with the winning bidder. The basket looks much nicer without it though.  Next, I added a hand crocheted cotton cloth. I make these all the time because  I can't sit still. I have to always be doing something. Which means I have a few hanging around the house. It looks special with the ribbon band around it.  I recycled a T...

You have more control than you know, Part 2 household products

Image
This week we are tackling all the toxins in our household products. A quick note. I will be using "toxins" instead of "chemicals" when discussing the bad things in our environment. Everything God made contains the elements from the Periodic Table of chemical elements. All natural things can be broken down or discussed in elemental form or as elemental compounds. The problem is not the chemical constituents in natural items, The problem is with synthetic toxins.  Giving up Bath & Bodyworks Japanese Cherry Blossom may seem cruel. It is your signature scent. Everyone knows you are in the room because of it. Many know you are there because they get an instant headache and their sinuses stuff up. That is what happens  when our bodies are subjected to synthetic scents.   Here is a blog I did in the past with lots of info on the dangers of synthetic toxins . I won't repeat everything here but check it out!  For our family, bec...

You Have More Control Than You Know

Image
disclaimer: I am not a medical professional. I am sharing personal experiences that have helped my family and I hope will help others.  Autoimmunity is becoming nearly epidemic.  Our own bodies are declaring civil war. It can be genetics, lifestyle, or a complete mystery as to why someone ends up with an autoimmune diagnosis.  At our house, I and my son both have an autoimmune disorder. Mine is inherited, it is Hoshimotos Thyroiditis. It is treatable and not too hard to live with for me. Click here to read my post on how I help my own body find balance again with natural supplements.  My son's is not inherited. It is a rare condition called Parry Romberg Syndrome (PRS). From the outside, he looks like any other teen boy. On the inside, he has scarring, leaking vessels, nerves that have been attacked and never stop sending pain signals (Trigeminal Neuralgia, or TN).   His condition is harder to treat. We see many specialists...

Essential Oils and Your Plants

Image
It is time to start our spring garden. The picture above is from last year. I am so excited for fresh veggies and herbs! I try my best to keep my garden organic and toxin free. We have lots of grubs in our beds. Every spring we turn over the soil, remove the weeds and grass (to the best of our abilities) and remove the grubs. The grubs are really larvae of harmful insects that munch on my plant's roots! Then we amend the soil with manure, and topsoil.  Diatomaceous Earth is a great option for insects. It is safe for people and pets but deadly to creatures with an exoskeleton. It is made from crushed up remains of diatoms, which are fossilized shell creatures.  It is a lot like powdered chalk. You don't really want to breathe it in. I sprinkle it on the bed below the plants and use a bottle to puff it out onto the leaves. Don't overdo it though. The plants can do their photosynthesis thing if you cover them to heavily!  The other thing you have to worry...

Lemongrass - Essential Oil Spotlight

Image
Lemongrass is a very popular herb that can be found growing natively in Asia, Africa, and Australia. It has been used for cooking and medicinal purposes for hundreds of years. This is one of my favorite essential oils! It is has a sweet lemon smell and has so many uses. The main way I use it is in my diffuser. I usually combine it with peppermint or spearmint for a bright fresh scent. It is very uplifting, the scent actually makes me happy! It is a great addition to the laundry routine on your wool dryer balls. Or use to make a room mist. Click here to see my purification spray recipe . You can use any of your favorite oils to make your own room spray. Lemongrass Vitality can be added to your tea or water. A little drop goes a long way in recipes. I have used Lemongrass with a carrier oil for underarm deodorant with great success. It can sting a bit on sensitive areas so try with a carrier oil first!  Use it with a carrier oil after ...

Spring Fresh the Natural Way!

Image
I so LOVE the spring! We plan our garden, throw out lots of clutter, tighten up our budget, and open the windows. I also can see the end of the school year in sight. It is so wonderful!   I know you are already cleaning with Thieves Cleaner. It is the best. No contest. I use it for all glass, mirrors, countertops, toilets. I dust with it. I spray my floors with it and use my steam mop.   This month Thieves Cleaner in on our promotion at the 250 PV level! PLUS, we get the great glass bottle. So no excuses, start using it. It lasts a long time even when you use it on everything. We also get the Thieves dish soap this month at the 190 PV level. The best way to use this (in my opinion) is in a foaming liquid soap dispenser. The usual ratio is 5 parts water to 1 part liquid soap. It is so concentrated! You may even want to do a bit less soap.  Click here to learn how to  Make your own foaming cleaning pods!  This recipe ...
